About Sangeeta Pillai
Sangeeta Pillai has been called a Bad Daughter her entire life. Growing up in a Mumbai slum challenging patriarchy, Sangeeta now incites other women to do the same with her multi-award-winning Masala Podcast and her feminist network Soul Sutras. Featured extensively in the press and on giant billboards in New York and London, Sangeeta is a leading voice for South Asian feminism globally.
“As vibrant and plucky as ever…”
Sangeeta Pillai’s award-winning Masala Podcast has grown from indie production to Spotify Original, and is as vibrant and plucky as ever as it airs cultural taboos and speaks to South Asian women about everything “they’re not supposed to”.
“Breaking down taboos”
Now a boss podcaster and host of the award-winning Masala Podcast, Sangeeta is a feminist activist, who is behind platform Soul Sutras, and is breaking down taboos for South Asian and British Asian women.
“Fighting patriarchy since age 3”
So reads the motto of Sangeeta Pillai, founder of online platform for South Asian women, Soul Sutras.
Born into a traditional Indian family and growing up in the slums of Mumbai, Pillai says early life was a constant battle. Such has been its success, the blog has now expanded to include a podcast, theatre productions, and there’s even a book in the pipeline.

Upcoming & Past Events
My talk at the Canary Wharf Female Entrepreneurs Network was phenomenal. Thank you to everyone. You heard me. You hugged me. You told me how you were a Bad Daughter in your own lives. Thank you for validating IRL this concept, this feeling, this book. I left you all feeling like something I've worked on for 7 years is going to change the lives of a lot of women!
Chairing the Female Leadership panel at the Podcast Show in London was one of my highlights, of being in the podcasting industry. I had the privilege of moderating a panel of female industry powerhouses. In just 30 minutes, we delivered a comprehensive session, offering vital statistics, inspiring narratives, and actionable resources.
I spoke on a wonderful panel for The Or London, part of the Mother Group. We spoke about the lessons we'd learnt as successful women. I spoke about transforming pain into power. A power that every woman carries within her. I was joined by wonderful fellow feminists and the audience response was phenomenal.
